England continued their perfect start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a dominant 3-0 win over Latvia at Wembley, extending their unbeaten home streak in qualification matches to 30 games (W27, D3). A stunning free-kick from Reece James, along with goals from Harry Kane and Eberechi Eze, ensured Thomas Tuchel’s men maintained their early momentum.

England in Control Despite Early Scare

Coming off a solid 2-0 win over Albania, England aimed to build on their positive start under Tuchel. They dominated possession early, yet nearly found themselves trailing after a defensive mix-up between Marc Guehi and Jordan Pickford allowed Vladislavs Gutkovskis a golden chance—only for the Latvian forward to inexplicably miss from close range.

That scare jolted England into action, as Ezri Konsa forced a strong save from Krisjanis Zviedris and Kane wasted a headed opportunity from eight yards. The Three Lions kept pressing, and their persistence was rewarded just before halftime when Reece James curled a spectacular free-kick into the top corner—his first international goal.

Kane and Eze Seal the Win

The second half followed a familiar pattern, with England controlling the game while Latvia sat deep. Though clear-cut chances were initially hard to come by, the visitors’ resistance was finally broken in the 68th minute. Declan Rice whipped in a precise low cross, allowing Kane to tap in at the back post for his 71st England goal.

With the result all but secured, Tuchel introduced fresh legs, and substitute Eberechi Eze made an instant impact. The Crystal Palace star netted his maiden England goal with a low, deflected strike in the 75th minute, putting the game beyond doubt.

England could have added to their tally, but Zviedris produced late saves to deny Morgan Rogers and Kane, ensuring Latvia avoided further damage.

England’s Qualification Campaign Gathers Momentum

With two wins from two and no goals conceded, England are off to a flying start in their World Cup qualifying campaign. The Three Lions’ depth and attacking firepower were on full display, with James and Eze adding their names to the scoresheet alongside Kane.

Tuchel’s men will now turn their attention to tougher tests ahead as they look to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup in dominant fashion.
